I still think it isn't vapor lock--with vapor lock, fuel flow is reduced or eliminated, and the car runs for a while on what's left in the float bowls, then starts sputtering and dies. If the engine is running fine and then dies suddenly, that's almost always electrical.

Apr 30, 2011 · Traffic in L.A., even back in the 1970's was bad enough to create percolation of the fuel in the carb bowls. Underhood temps on these little cars can become extreme. Here in Jawja, on a 90 degree (F) day, my Spit-6 overheated and percolated the fuel causing vapor lock.
Jul 22, 2016 · Re: Vapor Lock Issues. Next time try only cooling the carb. Since it is close to the exhaust and has the largest reservoir of fuel in it you will probably find you fix the problem just about as fast. Your car should have a heat shield between the exhaust and the carb.

Jun 3, 2024 · Still having issues with my 1978 Spitfire. It shuts off randomly and then will only restart after a while of sitting. It has happened in very hot weather so I assumed it could be vapor lock. I wrapped the fuel line in heat resistant wrap but yesterday it occurred again.
