Based on advice here, I'm installing an Andersen weight distribution hitch. Toyota specifies the rear axle to ball distance at 49.73".

Oct 3, 2020 · 2017 Highlander XLE towing experience. It seems that this model has the so called towing package (higher capacity cooling for radiator and transmission etc.). I have pulled a little over 2,000 lbs in a tent trailer with no problem, good gas mileage and vehicle not working very hard even up and down the mountains.
