Better Animal Models is a client-only mod. Installing it on the server will work, but simply disable it. Clients with Better Animal Models are able to connect to vanilla servers (so long as it does not break rules, and they do not have any other non-client mods).
After much ado and blood, sweat, and tears, Better Animals Plus is now running on Forge and Fabric, curtesy of Architectury, for both 1.16.5 and 1.17.1 (with a 1.18.1 port for both versions coming in the near future), with a Whisperwoods port following suite.
Was looking into some animal mods, ended up downloading Better Animals Plus and Better Animal Models. After that I started looking into a few more and now I'm conflicted, Wizard's Animals, Alex's Mobs, Untamed Wilds all look great too!
