Mar 27, 2020 · Then press "G", then "Z", to grab and move on Z axis, then you type how much you want to move (example: G then Z then 10m). When all iscontours are drawn, you select them all, and join them into a single object. Then you triangulate the surface. This way, in my opinion is not the most suitable.
May 6, 2019 · Hi there Blender Artists Community. I’m using Blender 2.8 and have an imported file with land survey information. The land is quite large (18.5 acres/7.5 hectares). The survey information is in the form of contour lines. Each contour line has many vertices along it. There are about 7500 vertices for the entire survey. I want to create terrain from the contour lines and smooth it out. I have ...
Jan 15, 2009 · I couldn’t found an easier solution like in sketchup. Easiest way to create contours in blender i think using curves, than convert to mesh and f->skin faces. Also give a try to surface->nurbs curve (model first contour and extrude). Terrain that modeled in sketchup can be exported to blender using exporter or heightmap (fog method).
Sep 23, 2013 · I have iso/contour-lines (curves) in which I can trace and convert to vector format which I then can import into Blender. Does anyone have any idea how to … Blender Artists is an online creative forum that is dedicated to the growth and education of the 3D software Blender.
- Step 1. Get The Map Data

For the first step, I need to get some real-world map data. I’m specifically looking for a grayscale heightmap. Once in Blender, I can use the luminance values of my heightmap to drive the vertical displacement of my terrain. The problem is finding these heightmaps. Depending on the location, you can find map data from various places. However, many...
Once downloaded, my heightmap and map image need a little touching up. My height map has some black spots that need patching and cropping out some of the surrounding islands. Again, Blenderwill be using the luminance values of my heightmap to control the displacement, so it’s essential to fix up any problem areas. I also want to clean up the edges ...
First, I’ll delete the default cube and create a new Mesh > Plane. Next, I’ll switch to Edit mode and right+click > Subdivide the plane. I’ll type in 50 for the Number of Cuts in the Subdividepanel at the bottom-left. Subdividing the mesh adds more vertices, which will give me a more detailed terrain map. The problem here is that it’s a balance of ...
With my mesh ready to go, I’ll switch back to Object mode and then change the display mode to Material Preview. First I’ll go to the Material Propertiestab with the plane selected and create a new material. I’ll select the circle next to Base Color and grab Image Texture. Now, I can navigate and open up my map image. Voila, directly my image is pla...
Next, I’ll navigate the Modifier tab and add a new Displace modifier to the plane. I’ll click on the Newbutton to add a unique texture. I’ll set the Type to Image or Movie in the Textureproperties tab and then open up the heightmap. Now, my mesh has some depth to it—low poly and overly high depth, but depth nonetheless. Go back to the Displace modi...
I grabbed my default light and switched it from Point to Area in the Object properties panel to get some nice shadows. Then, I simply repositioned it next to my plane and adjusted the brightnessuntil I was happy with the look of the shadow. This is about as far as my current skills can take me. I’ve played around with Render settings, HDRIs, and Wo...
Apr 27, 2021 · It can help us generate terrain for our scenes way quicker than it would be to model terrain by hand. To use A.N.T Landscape in Blender once we enabled it, press “Shift+A”, go to mesh and select landscape. Press F9 for the operator panel and find the preset drop-down at the top.
