May 19, 2022 · We intend to introduce amendments to the Telecommunications Act to ensure that promoting the security and protection of our telecommunications system is an overriding objective of Canada’s telecommunications policy. Amendments will include mechanisms to prohibit the use of equipment and services from designated suppliers where necessary to protect Canada’s telecommunications system.
NG 9-1-1 and PSBN, though distinct, will gain advantage from enhanced coverage, reliability and security, thereby benefiting Canadians. Canada’s National Public Alerting System (NPAS) could also benefit from anticipated increases in broadband mobile coverage to deliver alerts to the public.
