1 day ago · No, distilled water doesn’t conduct electricity. Distilled water is a pure form of water that does not contain any dissolved impurities, due to which no free ions are present to conduct electricity. Distilled water has a neutral PH value (neither acidic nor basic). Distilled water is free of any other impurity apart from the water molecules ...
Dec 2, 2016 · Physics 02 December 2016. By Fiona MacDonald. (Soumei Baba/Flickr) It's a textbook moment centuries in the making: more than 200 years after scientists started investigating how water molecules conduct electricity, a team has finally witnessed it happening first-hand. It's no surprise that most naturally ocurring water conducts electricity ...
Sep 23, 2022 · It is the removal of impurities and ions in the process that makes the conductivity of distilled water very low; the electrical conductivity range of distilled water is 0.5 to 3 µS/cm, which corresponds to a resistivity of 18 megohm-cm (MΩ). As distilled water has a low conductance value, it is unable to conduct electricity.
Apr 13, 2018 · In laboratory conditions, scientists have found that distilled water has an insulating capability comparable to glass, plastic, ceramic and air. But before you think a tub or pool filled with distilled water could actually provide some protection from electricity, remember that while air is an insulator, it can't stop lightning, and the water probably couldn't either.
Jun 6, 2018 · When water contains these ions it will conduct electricity, such as from a lightning bolt or a wire from the wall socket, as the electricity from the source will seek out oppositely-charged ions in the water. Too bad if there is a human body in the way. Interestingly, if the water contains very large amounts of solutes and ions, then the water ...
May 20, 2017 · Water is indeed NOT a good conductor UNLESS impurities exist. And if you could keep the impurities from contaminating it, you could put a radio in it and it would still work. You can find out yourself. Take distilled water (about a cup) and check the resistance with an ohm meter with probes fixed distance approximately 1/2 inch apart.

1. Distilled water does conduct electricity. At room temperature, it contains 10-7 M each of H + and OH-. These charged particles conduct electricity. Of course salty water, with many more ions, conducts better. 2. I don't understand what NASA was claiming well enough to comment. Mike W. (published on 09/11/2012)
