My main goal is to establish dominance at spawn as I switch to Hard difficulty around midgame. And it is always nicer to spawn in a dedicated build than in a middle of nowhere. The other part of the answer is that I usually ditch seeds that I do not immediately like, so I build at spawn full fledged bases with all the goodies anyway.
