Reducing alcohol intake lowers blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner with an apparent threshold effect. Implementation of effective alcohol interventions in people who drink more than two drinks per day would reduce the disease burden from both alcohol consumption and hypertension, and should be prioritised in countries with substantial alcohol-attributable risk.

Jun 12, 2024 · Alcohol consumption has been associated with a variety of cardiovascular disease outcomes, including cardiomyopathies, coronary artery disease, stroke, and increased blood pressure (BP), 5 the latter end point of BP having been recently reviewed through a dose-response meta-analysis. 6 However, uncertainties exist regarding its association with the risk of hard outcomes including hypertension ...
Jan 1, 2017 · Awake systolic BP and diastolic BP were 2.3 mmHg/1.3 mmHg higher in women who consumed greater amounts of alcohol (146 to 218 g/week, ~2 to 3 standard drinks/day) than in those who drank less (42 to 73 g/week, ~0.5 to 1 standard drink/day) or none at all. There was no BP-lowering effect with lower alcohol amounts.
The identification of people who drink more than two drinks per day and implementation of effective alcohol interventions would substantially reduce the disease burden from both alcohol and raised blood pressure, and should be prioritised in research and primary care in countries with a substantial alcohol-attributable disease burden to prevent and reduce NCD burden in line with WHO goals for ...

Abstract. The volatility of alcohol promotes the movement of alcohol from the bronchial circulation across the airway epithelium and into the conducting airways of the lung. The exposure of the airways through this route likely accounts for many of the biologic effects of alcohol on lung airway functions. The impact of alcohol on lung airway ...

Apr 18, 2005 · Drinkers of alcoholic beverages have higher blood pressure 2 or are at higher risk for developing hypertension. 3 A J-shaped relationship between blood pressure and ingestion of alcoholic beverages has been described by some studies, with lower blood pressure at moderate levels of consumption. 4 However, the habit of drinking 2 to 3 drinks per day is an unequivocal threshold dose for ...
