Jun 6, 2001 · It assumes that the Bible teaches that men are to have authority over women but not vice versa. Jesus’ teachings about authority appear in all four Gospels (which means it must have been repeated over and over). Our Lord said, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority are called benefactors.
CLAIM: Paul writes, “Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ” (1 Cor. 11:3). Some Christian theologians hold that Paul’s use of the word “head” (kephalē) implies that men (or perhaps husbands) have authority over women (or perhaps wives). Is this the case?

Woman in the creation and after the fall Genesis presents gender equality, rather than male leadership, as humanity’s created state.1It teaches that man and woman are created equally in the image of God and together have dominion over the earth (Gen 1:26–27). Their equality is not limited to spiritual standing before God, but applies to their domin...
Jesus in all his words and deeds left us an example to treat women as equals with men, never subordinated or restricted in role (Matt 12:49–50; 15:38; 25:31–46; Mark 3:34–35; Luke 8:21; 11:27–28). His treatment of women as equals defied the judicial, social, and religious customs of his day. On judicial matters where women’s rights were curtailed, ...
Paul many times affirms the equality of man and woman by identifying women as laboring alongside men in ministry, by affirming many theological truths that entail the equality of men and women, and by explicitly affirming their equality. Paul’s affirmations of women in ministry In Rom 16:1–16, Paul greets by name ten people he identifies as colleag...
Despite Paul’s many affirmations of gender equality, the idea persists that Paul is a champion of male rule in the church. Why? Primarily because of popular interpretations of a few passages: 1 Tim 2:12 (“I do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man”); 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1 (male-only overseer requirements); and 1 Cor 14:34–35 (“Let ...
Scripture’s affirmations of the equality of men and women and its affirmations of women called by God to exercise authority alongside or over men are so clear and numerous that to attempt to deny them all is like a person caught in an avalanche thinking, “I will evade each rock or clump of snow as it comes, and none will hit me.” Just as the totali...
Apr 13, 2005 · The principle of submission would have been violated in the first century if women had taught men or exercised authority over them, but it would not be in our day because of our different conceptions of what constitutes submission. 37 However, not only is the requirement of submission a little further away (verse 11) than we might expect if verses 13-14 give the basis for it, but we must ...
Apr 19, 2023 · It prohibits women in that church from seizing authority to teach a man. Women teaching with recognized teaching authority, like Priscilla, would not be seizing authority. Paul does not prohibit women everywhere or at all times from teaching or having authority over men. 1 Timothy 2:13–15 explains Paul’s restriction:

May 21, 2024 · Women and Creation. Some people assert that the Bible affirms that only men, not women, were made in God’s image. Yet right after God announces, “Let Us make man in our image, according to our likeness” (), the text tells us, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them” (v. 27).
Feb 27, 2016 · That’s the role of the husband. That is a huge tall order. So, there’s nothing in Scripture about men being superior to women. There’s equal value with men and women. There are just simply different roles that men and women have in a marriage relationship. Different roles do not equal different value. Men and women are equally valued.
