In fact, the temple was not even really finished in Jesus’ day because work on it would continue off and on until AD 63, some thirty years after Jesus’ death and resurrection.
The Greek word for "body" is σῶμα (sōma), which refers to the physical body. Here, Jesus is foreshadowing His death and resurrection, indicating that His body would be the ultimate sacrifice and the means through which God would establish a new covenant with humanity.
