  1. Sep 10, 2017 · 1. God designed marriage to meet the human need for companionship. When you read Genesis 1 & 2, God’s words (Gen. 2:18) hit abruptly: “It is not good for the man to be alone.”. Throughout chapter one, God surveys His work and pronounces it good (Gen. 1:10, 12, 18, 21, 25, 31). This is the first time God says that something in His creation ...

  2. Jun 3, 2022 · Here are the three most common viewpoints: 1) God only considers a man and a woman married when they are legally married—that is, when they become husband and wife in the eyes of the law. 2) A man and a woman are married in God’s eyes when they have completed some kind of formal wedding ceremony involving covenantal vows. 3) God considers a ...

    • God instituted marriage and blessed it. “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled” (Hebrews 13:4). We have already seen that God performed the very first wedding at the end of Creation week and blessed the new couple (Genesis 1:27, 28).
    • Close bond in marriage. “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make a helper comparable to him’ ” (Genesis 2:18). After each of the six days of Creation week, God reviewed what He had made and saw that it was “good.”
    • Husband and wife become one. “He [God] brought her [Eve] to the man. And Adam said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’
    • Marriage: A lifelong commitment. “Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your . . . life” (Ecclesiastes 9:9). There is a reason the traditional marriage vow includes the phrase “till death do you part.”
  3. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.

    • Genesis 1:27. God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. From the very beginning, God made men and women with equal dignity as humans, and glorious complementary differences as men and women.
    • Genesis 2:24. A man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. After God made the first woman and entrusted this remarkable gift to the man, God instituted what we call marriage.
    • Matthew 19:6. So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. Now we skip ahead thousands of years to the words of Jesus.
    • Ephesians 4:32. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. This may be the single most important verse for my own marriage of twelve years.
  4. It is good. One of the things the Bible says about marriage is that it is good. The book of ancient wisdom called Proverbs puts it this way: “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord” (Proverbs 18:22). Presumably, she who finds a husband also finds what is good.

  6. Oct 28, 2024 · In Matthew 19:4-6, our Lord affirms the sanctity of marriage, stating that “what God has joined together, let no one separate.”. Yet later, in Matthew 22:30, he tells us, “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.” (Nyarko, 2023; Wei, 2023) This seeming paradox ...
