Jan 1, 2010 · The fact that in newspaper commentaries mixed metaphor dominantly occurs across clause boundaries elegantly explains my earlier findings (although I will look at other cases below). When mixed metaphors are parts of different discourse slots that is reason enough for the fact that little, if any awkwardness arises.
