Feb 12, 2015 · There is also a statutorily created court known as the court of claims that hears civil cases filed against the state of Ohio and appeals of claims for compensation by crime victims. All Ohio judges are elected for six-year terms of office.
The Court must accept appeals of cases that originated in the courts of appeals; cases involving the death penalty; cases involving questions arising under the U.S. Constitution or the Ohio Constitution; and cases in which there have been conflicting opinions from two or more courts of appeals.
The Supreme Court also has appellate jurisdiction in cases involving questions arising under the Ohio or United States Constitutions, cases originating in the courts of appeals, and cases in which there have been conflicting opinions on the same question from two or more courts of appeals.
