Jun 14, 2023 · The XB6 gateway only has Gigabit Ethernet ports, and it provides Wi-Fi 5 connectivity internally. The XB6 (Gen 1) gateway was only meant to be used for Internet speeds up to 1 Gbps. With the 1.5 Gigabit service, Rogers should upgrade you to either the XB7 (Gen 2) or XB8 (Gen 3) gateway.
It's 2x2 (2.4 GHz) / 8x8 (5 GHz) [XB6] vs. 4x4 (2.4 GHz) / 4x4 (5 GHz) [XB7]. The former is better because most devices will connect to the faster 5 GHz band. Personally, I don't plan on using the built-in Wi-Fi. For now, I'm good with Wi-Fi 5 and getting around 400-500 Mbps.
Jan 20, 2021 · Yes I have my XB6 in bridge mode and I am also on the gigabit package. With the Asus I can get 800mb/s on WiFi compared to 600mb/s with the XB6.
On the wireless side the XB6 has Wifi 5 and the XB7 has Wifi 6 which is why you are able to get 716Mbps over wireless on your phone or tablet. The main way for you to get closer to 1Gbps is to go over a wired connection or by getting your own networking gear that is more powerful then what is built in to the modem. 5.
Basically, you could be on an 300mph speed highway, but it doesn't matter because your car is physically built that it can't go faster than 150mph. Last I looked, the Wifi 5 (802.11ac) is the fastest protocol. The Xb6 is supposed to have this.
