I just honestly didn't care about Sai at all. I didnt find him compelling so when they just shoved him into team 7 and tried to make him a main character it really bored me.
Sai's a very quiet person, possibly even by nature and not brainwashing, and one who does try to do his best; initially for Root, and then very quickly for the people he cares about the moment he's given the opportunity to care about.
