  5. If you're looking to go abroad or do graduate work it can have an influence, though not necessarily. SFU offers some things UBC doesn't while UBC has a larger international footprint. OP, spend some time on both campuses and see which you like most. That's important as well if the namesake of the school won't be a serious issue.

  6. Yes it is, it’s top 4 in Canada and top 40 in the world and if people don’t think they have good academic opportunities here then they don’t know how good they have it.   8. The social life at SFU is not great compared to that of UBC, but if you get yourself involved in things there still is a social life. So I would say SFU does not have a lively atmosphere, but there are social thing you can do, while UBC has a more lively atmosphere and there are social things you can do.
