The Computer Science Student Society (CSSS) at SFU also feels more like a community than UBC’s CSSS in my opinion and if you are female/non-binary, SFU WICS is fantastic too. At UBC, the CSSS doesn’t seem to have as much of a community feel and I don’t think they really reach out to community members as much.

UBC’s motto: “Tuum Est.” Verdict: SFU is actively engaging people and officiating international weddings while UBC still thinks people speak Latin. Extrapolation from verdict: SFU is better than UBC, because . . . international love. Hackers like us more.
If you're looking to go abroad or do graduate work it can have an influence, though not necessarily. SFU offers some things UBC doesn't while UBC has a larger international footprint. OP, spend some time on both campuses and see which you like most. That's important as well if the namesake of the school won't be a serious issue.
