Maybe fortunate because it's been so cold, but unfortunate because I never got to access this area during the polar vortex that lasted several weeks.    My husband grew up going to the Foster Beach and took my kids and me for our first Lake Michigan beach experience. We had a lot of fun. My kids played and played. The beach was nice and clean of trash. The water was chilly but clear. It wasn't crowded when we were there (11 until about 1:30), but it was starting to fill up as we were leaving.

There is usually plenty of room as you walk north. I recommend walking north so you can also enjoy the artwork that's been painted on the rocks.

   When was Foster Beach built?

   • Foster Beach is part of Lincoln Park’s landfill extension in the 1950s. Completed in 1958, the beach was part of an extension plan launched in 1947. E.V. Buchsbaum designed a beach house for the site as well, constructed between the late 1950s and early 1960s. A new beach house provided improved facilities and amenities in the 1990s.
