Nov 19, 2023 · William Kennedy, the founder of Kennedy and Sons, came to Upper Canada in 1831. In 1856, he traveled to Owen Sound to install machinery for Harrison's Woolen Mill. A millwright by trade, and trained in Scotland, he decided to stay in Owen Sound. By 1863, he was the proud owner of a two-story sash and door factory and a machine shop.

He worked as a Paymaster at William Kennedy and Sons Limited. This company manufactured most of the propellers in North America in the 1940s and 1950s. In 1961, it became known as Black Clawson-Kennedy.
