The Manitoba Historical Society recognizes the role that we, as an organization, can play in supporting the calls to action made by the National Commission for Truth and Reconciliation. We also understand that before real change can happen, the truth must be revealed, and only then can we make the path clear for reconciliation.

May 12, 2020 · For immediate release: The Winnipeg Foundation has recently provided a $170,000 grant to the Manitoba Historical Society (MHS), in recognition of its efforts and commitment to preserving Manitoba’s history. The sizeable grant, committed to MHS through the provincial government’s Manitoba Heritage Trust Program (MHTP), will grow to nearly $260,000 once it is fully realized, later this year.

The Manitoba Historical Society (MHS), founded in 1879, is the oldest organization in Western Canada, and the second-oldest in all of Canada, dedicated to preserving our past for future generations. The MHS is a registered public charity and it is not affiliated with the Government of Manitoba. It is unlike historical societies in many parts.
