  3. John uses questions to convince readers to “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God” that they might have life in his name (pp. 11–12). The title captures the author’s objective, to examine the questions of Jesus in John in light of their logical, rhetorical, and linguistic virtues (p. 13).

    • “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand?” (Mark 4:21). Jesus was explaining the purpose and importance of the parables to His disciples.
    • And if you greet your brethren only, what is unusual about that? Do not the unbelievers do the same? (Matt 5:47)
    • Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your lifespan? (Matt 6:27)
    • Why are you anxious about clothes? (Matt 6:28)
    • Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye yet fail to perceive the wooden beam in your own? (Matt 7:2)

And these are just the questions Jesus asked that were recorded. Likely that number was MUCH higher. In contrast, Jesus answered shockingly few questions asked of him.
