- The osteoblasts secrete a collagen-proteoglycan matrix that is able to bind calcium salts. Through this binding, the prebone (osteoid) matrix becomes calcified.
Oct 30, 2023 · The osteoblasts differentiate into osteocytes and their processes are enclosed within canaliculi as the matrix becomes calcified. As the bone tissue develops, osteoblasts create a network of trabeculae and spicules. Osteoblasts (histological slide)

Through this binding, the prebone (osteoid) matrix becomes calcified. In most cases, osteoblasts are separated from the region of calcification by a layer of the osteoid matrix they secrete. Occasionally, though, osteoblasts become trapped in the calcified matrix and become osteocytes —bone cells.

The osteoblasts secrete osteoid, uncalcified matrix consisting of collagen precursors and other organic proteins, which calcifies (hardens) within a few days as mineral salts are deposited on it, thereby entrapping the osteoblasts within. Once entrapped, the osteoblasts become osteocytes (Figure 6.4.1 b).

Apr 9, 2024 · As this secreted matrix becomes calcified with the binding of calcium, the matrix hardens and entraps the osteoblasts. Then, osteoblasts become osteocytes, which are involved in the routine turnover of the bony matrix. At the edge of the newly formed and growing bone, the osteogenic cells differentiate into new osteoblasts.
Conversely, osteoblasts, another type of bone cell, deposit calcium and phosphate into bone tissue when blood calcium levels are high, reducing the amount of calcium circulating in the bloodstream. This intricate process is highly regulated by various hormones and signaling pathways (one of the most important hormones involved in this ...

Jul 30, 2022 · Most of the chondrocytes in the zone of calcified matrix, the zone closest to the diaphysis, are dead because the matrix around them has calcified. Capillaries and osteoblasts from the diaphysis penetrate this zone, and the osteoblasts secrete bone tissue on the remaining calcified cartilage.
