Jul 10, 2021 · How do the conditions produced by globalization affect democracy and its baseline requirements? In particular, I focus on three causal pathways by which globalization might be undermining (stable) democracy. These involve rising economic inequality, personal insecurity, and global interdependence.
The emphasis is on how economic experiences and changes in the structure of electoral cleavages alter the terms of political contestation, thereby giving voice to specific sets of interests and altering the balance of influence between capitalism and democracy.
