Oct 31, 2024 · When a Similarity Report is available for viewing, a similarity score percentage displays in your assignment inbox. The color of the report icon indicates the submission’s similarity score, based on the amount of matching text found.
Jul 9, 2024 · The similarity score is the percentage of matched text your submission contains. We calculate this by dividing the total words in a submission by the amount of words matched to outside sources. It is likely your submission will match against some of our database.
Under the consistent University-wide Turnitin set up, you will see your Similarity Report at different times depending on whether you submitted a ‘Self Check’ or a final version for marking, and whether the final version was on time or late.

When is a Similarity Report produced?
The choice to generate a report is made when a New Assignment submission is set up. You will need to choose Optional Settings and select Yes under the heading ‘Generate Similarity Reports for submissions?’to enable this feature.
Allowing students to see their Similarity Reports

The Match Overview sidebar shows a list of the individual matches, with a suggested most likely source and a separate percentage score for each of these, as a proportion of the assignment’s total text in descending order.
Applying filters and exclusions will reduce the Similarity Index percentage and refine the number of matches shown in a report.
When viewing a report you can choose to filter out matches from easily explained sources (e.g. corrected referenced text.)
