If you minor in bio it’s the same as a pre-med major in most institutions. Also, I ended up double majoring in bio because a minor in bio put me only 3 courses away from a bio major due to the overlap of courses for a bio and Chem major. I used that to get a masters in biochem and became an environmental engineer with a civil engineering firm.
Jun 13, 2024 · The Chemistry Minor is an open-enrollment program that provides students with an opportunity to experience the different sub-disciplines in chemistry without the more significant commitment of enrolling in a specialist or major program. Students gain laboratory experience throughout the program in an area or areas of their choice (organic, inorganic, physical, biological, or analytical).
Chemistry 1050 and 1051 (or 1010, 1011 and the former 1031) (or 1200 and 1001), Chemistry 2100, 2210, 2301 or 2302, and 2400, and 6 credit hours in other chemistry courses at the 2000 level or above. Physics 1051 (or 1021) are prerequisites for Chem 2301 and Chem 2302 and would be required to complete a Minor.
2 days ago · ISCI 2A18 A/B may be used as a substitution for 3 units of Level II Chemistry toward the Minor in Chemistry, except for students in Honours Integrated Science with a concentration in Chemical Biology. In order to declare a Minor in Chemistry, at least 12 units (above Level I) must be elective to degree.
The Minor in Chemistry requires 18h (6 courses) of Chemistry courses with a minimum 12h (4 courses) at the 2000-, 3000-, or 4000-level. The remaining 6h (2 courses) would normally be General Chemistry (CHEM 1013 and CHEM 1023), since CHEM 1023 is a pre-requisite for all 2000-level CHEM courses.
The completion of a Chemistry Minor would give you a very basic education in chemistry but would not be recommended for those wishing to pursue a professional career in Chemistry, nor for those intending to pursue graduate studies in Chemistry. Students must consult the Department of their intended Major for the other requirements.
