That way, when you want to leave a cave, you know you're heading the right way when you see torches on your left-hand side. You can place them on the ground to prevent mobs from spawning, but you can just ignore them while trying to leave a cave.

  2. All you have to do to avoid this is always place torches on one side of the cavern. if your in a large cavern and the light doesn't quite reach to the other side. just place a torch on the floor so you don't get confused.

Not only will this make it more difficult to get lost, but you’ll also be able to find your way back home at night, i...

You could craft a compass with iron ingots and redstone dust to help you in Minecraft, but it comes with a few caveats. For starters, it only points to the spawn point of the map so, unless you built your house right where you spawned, it’s pretty much useless. Thankfully, by using a compass on a lodestone, you could get it to point to said lodesto...

If you’re completely lost and absolutely need to get home, an option is to purposely die so you can respawn at your house. To do so, just make sure you sleep in a bed in your house before leaving. As long as you haven’t slept in a bed anywhere else since then, you’ll respawn at your base. Of course, you’re going to lose everything you had on you be...

Sometimes, a little research can go a long way in helping you with directions. If you write down the coordinates of your base, you’ll never get lost again. The X-axis measures east and west, the Z-axis measures south and north, and the Y-axis measures high and low coordinates. On console, simply craft a map and you’ll see your coordinates in the to...

  3. Those "lava lakes" (with the exception of actual lava lakes, which appear anywhere) are actually caves entirely filled with lava, which can easily be seen with x-ray; you'll see caves continue on, but filled with lava, all the way down to bedrock, the cave generator code simply substitutes lava for air below y=11, as in this screenshot taken in spectator mode:

  4. Use your first iron ingot to make a shield. Make many many many torches. At the cave entrance (or just inside) make a dirt (or whatever) hut, big enough for a bed, chest and crafting table.
