Republished Book. Books may be republished due to popularity without becoming a new edition. New editions are typically revisions of the original work. For books that originally appeared at an earlier date and that have been republished at a later one, insert the original publication date before the publication information.
- Whole authored book. Sapolsky, R. M. (2017). Behave: The biology of humans at our best and worst. Penguin Books. Parenthetical citations: (Jackson, 2019; Sapolsky, 2017; Svendsen & Løber, 2020)
- Whole edited book. Kesharwani, P. (Ed.). (2020). Nanotechnology based approaches for tuberculosis treatment. Academic Press. Parenthetical citations: (Hygum & Pedersen, 2010; Kesharwani, 2020; Torino et al., 2019)
- Republished book, with editor. Parenthetical citation: (Watson & Rayner, 1920/2013) Narrative citation: Watson and Rayner (1920/2013) The book by Watson and Rayner was originally published in 1920.
- Book published with new foreword by another author. Kübler-Ross, E. (with Byock, I.). (2014). On death & dying: What the dying have to teach doctors, nurses, clergy & their own families (50th anniversary ed.).
When referencing a republished book, include the original date of publication at the end of the reference list entry. In-text citations should include both the republished and original publication dates (e.g., 1968/2012). For example: Author, A. (Republication date). Title of book in italic sentence case (ed. &/or Vol.). Publisher.

Aug 26, 2024 · You give the details as you would for a chapter of an edited book and the information needed to find the source you used (including the date of the anthology and the title of the "chapter" the editors have given you). Then, after the "normal" details for a book chapter, you include the details for the original source in brackets: Green, J. (2022).
Jul 13, 2021 · In text, cite both dates: first the original version, then the version you read, separated by a slash. The example below is a chapter from an edited book, reprinted in another book. You may adapt this to whatever type of source you are using.
Jul 17, 2024 · Republished work. Reference: Author Last name, Initials. (Year republished). Title. Publisher. (Original work published Year) Example: Laing, R. D. (1969). The self and others (2nd ed.). Pelican Books.
Note: When you cite a republished work, like the one above, in your text, it should appear with both dates: Plato (385-378/1989) Edition Other Than the First Author, A. A. (Year of publication).
