I don’t know why I did it, but instead of ignoring him, I turned and faced him. Deep lines in his face conveyed he’d lived a rough life. The moment our eyes met, I felt a nudge to give him money but thought, I don’t even know how much to give. God spoke clearly to my spirit. Give him the five-dollar bill in your wallet. I pulled the five from my wa...

As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David,...

  3. Suppose Jesus Christ stood where I stand, and spoke to you: ‘What wilt thou that I should do for you?’ If you are a wise man, if you know yourself and Him, your answer will come as swiftly as the beggar’s-’Lord! heal me of my blindness, and take away my sin, and give me Thy salvation.’

    • Do not let anybody silence your voice or dampen your enthusiasm when you’re chasing after Jesus. I have always loved how enthusiastically Bartimaeus called to Jesus.
    • Your relationship with Christ is personal. God is a relational God. He wants us to have an intimate relationship with Him. This can’t happen if we don’t keep our eyes firmly fixed on Him and don’t let anyone or anything distract you.
    • Obstacles will be put in your way, be ready to cast them aside. One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Hebrew 12:1-2. We are encouraged to lay aside every obstacle or anything that will block us from God.
    • Don’t pay attention to the crowd. I once heard a Pastor ask, “When has the majority ever been right?” It’s a lesson I’ve pondered often. In the story of Blind Bartimaeus we saw the people try to silence him when he cried out to Jesus.

The incident described here comes from a famous stretch of road; in fact, it is the road that Jesus’s Good Samaritan parable takes place on.
