   Multiculturalism was something you had to go and find on purpose - there was a "festival of friends" in Hamilton that we'd go to every year with a bunch of ethnic displays and food stalls, then another festival (Hamilton again) where different cultural groups would set up open house kind of places that you'd visit all around the city with dancing, music, arts and crafts and food.
