Edit: figured it out! powdered snow is the best way to keep yourself cool in the nether, ice and soul fire works well too. and of course, a butch of purified water/juice is also required. Take a lot of water with you.

Dragons are mobs that are both hostile and tameable. They are the main focus of the Ice and Fire mod. Dragons are massive, bipedal reptiles that have massive, leathery wings, as well as the ability to breathe a special element.
There are currently three types of dragons: the Fire Dragon, Ice Dragon and the Lightning Dragon. Fire Dragons breathe fire and can be found in any biome that ranges from a warm to cold climate, Ice Dragons breathe ice and can be only be found in snowy biomes, while the lightning dragon will hunt in crashing thunderstorms.

While lightning dragons do not burn you and place fire like a fire dragon, or place ice spikes like an ice dragon, their breath is very deadly. Lightning breath is considered the strongest of all dragons. So it's even more important to have these items. A bow is also necessary, as stage 3 dragons will fly away, rendering melee attacks useless.
