Oct 10, 2021 · For instance, in Job 29:7-17, Job recalls his days as a righteous judge in the gate who cared for the vulnerable. Here, Amos rails against those leaders who “push aside” community members seeking assistance; he condemns those whose judgements could be bought.
But Amos informed them that the day of the LORD they were about to experience would be a day of divine judgment, a time of darkness. God's people were to be judged for their wrongdoings before their Suzerain (Ruler). We have already been told there will be much death in Israel (verse 3).

Basically, this opens with a warning to those who have become complacent. Back in 1992, I was living in Miami when Hurricane Andrew hit as a category 4 storm. Having already lived through some storms in NY and Puerto Rico, I knew to prepare. The Miami area hadn’t had a hurricane hit directly since 1926. Needless to say, many of the residents had go...
In chapters 7 and 8, God shows Amos 5 visions… 1. Locusts 2. Fire 3. A Plumb Line 4. Ripe Summer Fruit 5. The Destruction of Bethel
Israel was ripe for judgment and punishment — no more delays. Idolatry wasn’t their only crime. There was cheating, and taking advantage of the poor and working class. The famine was not of bread (food) or water, but of “hearing the words of the Lord.” We humans hunger for truth. We are starved for truth. People search, but they will not find it. E...
Idolaters will fall down and never rise again. We, too, must not listen to what tickles our ears, but to sound, Biblical teaching. The Israelites adopted the pagan rites and ritualsfrom their neighbors, ignoring the truth that God had fed to them through Moses. Worship was not pure. God destroyed the temple and there was no escape. Coming judgments...
These prophecies are being fulfilled right now! 1) The restoration of the Davidic dynasty — King Jesus! Here’s where God gives us sinners Mercy and Grace if we repent and surrender our lives to Jesus. His Grace and Mercy are 100% unmerited. What we sinners deserve is judgment like what Israel got — in our case, hell. It’s your choice to accept His ...
Jan 21, 2024 · Lest any doubt the grace and longsuffering of the LORD, Amos reminded the people how God brought Israel out of Egypt (Amos 2:9), led them through the wilderness for forty years, and gave them the land of the Amorites for their possession (Amos 2:9-10).
Because of all this, the Lord will exile his people (Amos 5:27; 7:17) and will bring upon them the “day of the Lord,” a day of climactic judgment. More than any other prophet, Amos describes this coming day of judgment in terms of darkness.
The day of the Lord will be a dark, dismal, gloomy day to all impenitent sinners. When God makes a day dark, all the world cannot make it light. Those who are not reformed by the judgments of God, will be pursued by them; if they escape one, another stands ready to seize them.
