Current research shows a positive effect of music on psychological outcomes; however, many of these studies lacked significant sample size and rigor in monitoring type of music used and duration of music use during treatment.

Apr 15, 2020 · Introduction. Music therapy is a frequently used complementary and creative arts treatment in psychosocial cancer care (Bro et al., 2018). The general goal is to relieve symptom distress and to improve quality of life of patients in various stages of an oncological disease.
Music intervention could significantly alleviate surgery-related anxiety with an SMD of −0.52 (95% CI: [−1.07, 0.03], I2 = 89%). Whereas, music would have a greater effect in reducing chemotherapy-related anxiety (SMD: −0.83, 95% CI: [−1.13, −0.53], I2 = 15%) with a much lower heterogeneity.
