While conducting the third year exams with the Gryffindors, Professor Trelawney, while invigilating Harry Potter, entered a trance and made a prediction that Voldemort's servant would be freed, returning to him that night. When she returned to normal seconds later, she could not remember anything that had happened.
The joke here is that Trelawney, the divination prof at Hogwarts, doesn't have any special powers. She's more of a Barnum and Bailey fraud than a divine oracle. Of course, calling her a fraud might be a bit harsh – the woman isn't evil , though she is (mostly) a hack.
Because beneath her batty exterior, Professor Trelawney has two valuable secrets. Even though she herself does not seem to remember them, she has made two accurate predictions. The first appears in Book 3, when she predicts that Wormtail will rejoin Voldemort and Voldemort will rise again. The second appears in Book 5.
Exams roll around, and during Harry's pointless Divination exam, Professor Trelawney predicts the return of Voldemort's servant before midnight. Ron, Hermione, and Harry shield themselves in Harry's invisibility cloak and head off to comfort Hagrid before the execution.
