- How it works: Tap your PRESTO card, PRESTO Ticket, debit or credit card (including cards loaded on in a mobile wallet) on a card reader when you enter a subway station or board a vehicle. Your fare will be deducted and a transfer will be applied to your card or ticket.

Customers can take advantage of the TTC’s two-hour transfer when they pay their fare using a PRESTO card, PRESTO Ticket, debit or credit card (including the cards loaded in your mobile wallet). A transfer is applied to the card or PRESTO Ticket when you first tap on a card reader.
A two-hour transfer will automatically be applied to your card when you tap on a reader. Make sure you tap with the same card each time you transfer within the two-hour period, or else you will be charged a new fare. Credit and debit cards are accepted on all buses, streetcars, Wheel-Trans vehicles and at all subway stations.

Aug 22, 2018 · Once the two-hour transfer system is in effect, PRESTO card users must tap their card each time they enter a subway station and whenever they board a bus or streetcar, regardless of whether they’re in a station or on the street. Tapping validates the transfer or monthly pass on the card.
May 28, 2019 · The two-hour transfer is a new feature available to PRESTO card customers only. With this transfer, you can hop on and off of a vehicle and switch directions at any point within two hours of your first tap of the card.

If you pay with cash/coins/tokens, you get a paper transfer. You can only use this continuously on one trip, and doesn’t have a set time window. Paying with PRESTO, mobile wallet or bank card, you get a 2-hour transfer as long as you tap the same card/device every time you board a new vehicle.
