In terms of detail retrieval and resolution, the empyrean was about equal to my current daily driver - the Focal Elex. The soundstage on the other hand was noticeably wider and deeper, much more comparable to the Arya in that regard but the imaging precision wasn’t up to par with the Arya or even the Elex for that matter.
The Empyrean is a jack of all trade’s kind of versatile headphone that has superb bass and vocals. Timbre is on point, and very natural sounding. With the suede pads the soundstage is very wide (not HD800 wide but not too far off either) with acceptable imaging.
