The Water Division rigorously protect and test the quality of your water to ensure that it meets or exceeds all federal and state standards for health. For afterhours water or sewer emergencies, please contact (650) 616-7160. A property may be connected to the City's water system if it is located within the City limits and utilities are available.
Water is stored at multiple storage tanks located throughout the City to supply peak demands as well provide adequate fire protection for the community. If you have other questions, please call the Water Division at 650-616-7160. At the SFPUC Water Treatment Plant and well sites, chemicals are added to water for the purpose of disinfection.

WATER QUALITY REPORT 2019 OUR DRINKING WATER SOURCES AND TREATMENT The City of San Bruno water system has two supply sources. Surface water from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), and groundwater produced by four local wells. These two sources are blended within the distribution system.
The City of San Bruno produces an annual report detailing where San Bruno water comes from, how San Bruno treats it, and its overall chemical composition. The Public Works Water Division produces the report as a regulatory requirement, and thinks it is important for you to understand the information within it.
The majority of San Bruno’s water is supplied by the San Francisco Regional Water System (SFRWS), which is owned and operated by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), our major water source originates from spring Yosemite National Park snowmelt flowing down the Tuolumne River to storage in Hetch Hetchy Reservoir.
