Good point. I would suggest that this "Math" is relative to both the circumstances of the consumer (income/budget, costs of traveling to the store, time to get there etc.) and the purchase completed with the rain check (amount of savings, quantity, frequency of occurrence of the sale). In other words, the math can work out, or it might not.
