Oct 9, 2020 · For disks, you are missing a couple, e.g. Altirra's save disk dialog: Cartridge files are typically ROM, BIN, or CAR - the first 2 being the 'dump', e.g. exactly 8K, 16K, 128K in size, and the CAR includes a 16 byte header before the dump which (primarily) describes to an emulator or multi-cart's fimrware which mapper it should use.
DD Atari drives and PC drives. 1. The Atari drive spins slightly slower (288 RPM instead of 300 RPM). If you format a disk on the Atari, then write sectors on the PC, it is possible that the header of the next physical sector will be overwritten, making that sector unreadable. (The next physical sector is usually the current logical sector+2).

Floppy Image & file transfer program
This is a modern Windows based disk acquisition and image file handler. It will handle some copy protections I believe but not all, for that you will need a KyroFluxdevice. Their instructions are straight forward and I guide you to them for further advise.
Make Disk
This is the simplest method to image disks using DOS but is an old way of doing it becasue of the use of DOS. Also makedisk cannot handle copy protected disks. 1. Create a PC running DOS 6.22 (or FreeDOS should be fine) and Hard Drive formatted in FAT32 which does not have to be to large 2. Copy the makediskcommand onto the harddrive 3. Pasti
Pasti can handle protected disks and other images but you need a real ST to use this software.
