So my friends and I watched the friends(no pun intended) reunion special on HBO Max and everyone seems to really like the show and my friend told me to watch the show sometime… I mean like I’ve seen it a few times at nick at night but it just really never appealed to me…
More people watched lived at the time than now though so it's kind of disinguneous to compare it like that. HBO was reporting about 30 million views per episode during season 7. Keep in mind, though, that's multiple international markets over cable, on demand, and online streaming compared to Friends domestic one time broadcast.
Well over 30 times per seasons 3-10. For seasons 1 and 2 at most, 4 times each. I just can't watch those first two seasons as frequently because they're so dated. The others all feel pretty relevant almost like a current series but nonetheless timeless.
No wonder the ratings went from 23.4 million for the season 3 finale (lowest season finale in Friends' history) ... to the 30 million for the premiere episode of season 4.
Between Seinfeld and Friends, NBC ruled the night for years. Nowadays a show is successful if it has 5 million viewers, but TV was a different animal back then. It was normal for these two shows to average around 30 million viewers. You could really be left out on Friday mornings if you didn't watch. Friends, Seinfeld, and ER! It was huge.
In my country it was aired in Warner Channel. Oh, I remember there were some similar posts recently in the other sub where people shared some of their experiences watching when the show aired.
