Each province has their own rules. I’m familiar with Ontario. Specialists get paid per visit/ consultation/ procedure. Same fee whether they write a prescription or not. If they need to renew a prescription, no fee unless they also do a consultation. Which some will insist on. Family doctors have a roster of patients, and get paid regardless.
