These now replace the original Alcantara earpads that shipped with earlier units. Unlike the original, which were 36mm deep all around, the angled earpads are indeed angled, where the rear depth is 33mm, while the front depth is 25mm.
The Empyrean, as with many planars, has too much of an emphasis above 10K. It's a dark headphone that somehow sounds slightly bright and metallic with certain tracks because of it. The EH pads toned this down from all the pads, and this is reaffirmed by prior measurements on the Elite when swapping the stock pads and EH.
Aug 19, 2022 · Despite those improvements, I nevertheless find the Elite more comfortable. While it is lighter than the Audeze by a good 110 grams, I don’t think that’s necessarily the only factor. Meze’s head strap, ear pads, and general weight distribution just feel better to my head.

The Elite has significantly higher resolution and bigger soundstage with better instrument separation, imaging and detail retrieval.
