The Daedalian Keys Quest and Daedalian Key Locations

The Daedalian Keys is a Side Quest you can complete in Hogwarts Castle. Completing this quest will reward you with items that can be used throughout your adventures. This page covers all Dadalian Key locations and applies to all versions of Hogwarts Legacy, including the original PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of Hogwarts Legacy, as well as the Switch version from November, 2023.
The Daedalian Keys can be found in The Astronomy Wing within the castle. You can quickly get to the side quest by fast traveling to the Transfiguration Classroom point. Once you arrive there, you'll have to talk to Nellie Oggspire to start the quest. We have the specific location of each key listed below - All Daedalian Key Locations
After talking to Nellie, she'll tell you that the Daedalian Keys have returned. She'll explain how the keys work and encourage you to catch one. Once she's done talking, you'll have the option to say one of the following:
Once you're done talking with Nellie, you'll need to go to the Astronomy Tower to look for the key. As soon as you arrive at the top of the tower, the key will appear and begin flying downstairs.The key can be found in the classroom near the staircase in front of a locked cabinet. Get near the key and use it to unlock the House Cabinet, as shown in the picture below.
Below you'll find the location of all the Daedalian Keys found throughout the castle.
Daedalian Key 1
After you've completed the quest, the next key can be found in The Astronomy Wing near the Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower Floo Flame. Take the large stairwell downstairs until you see get to the floor with the large rhino skeleton shown in the picture below. The key is fluttering around the skeleton and will take off up the stairs shown in the picture below. Run up the stairs facing the skeleton's head. When you walk up the stairs, turn left and then another left past the Floo Flame. This will lead you straight to the House Cabinet at the end of the hall.
Daedalian Key 2
The second key can be found in The Library Annex near the Potions Classroom Floo Flame. After you spawn, walk through the double doors flanked by the two knight armors and you'll find the key in the area near the stacked up cauldrons in the passage shown below. It'll take off down the winding stairs to the left next to the classroom. Follow it downstairs. As soon as you reach the bottom, you'll be the next House Cabinet you're ready to unlock.
Daedalian Key 3
The third key is also in The Library Annex, but it's near the Central Hall Floo Flame. From the Floo Flame, head straight down the stairs to the large fountain. Turn right towards the ornate green double doors and turn left. The key is flying around in front of the paintings shown here (consult the mini map location in the screenshot if you're having trouble locating it). After you found the key, it will take off up the stairs you just came down, across the Great Hall to the large double doors on the other end, and then down and right to the Arithmancy Puzzle Door. The cabinet is to the right of the that door.
Daedalian Key 4
You can stay in Central Hall to find this key. Fast-travel back to the Central Hall Floo Flame. Instead of going downstairs, walk up the stairs this time. Make a hard-left to continue going up (the location at the bottom of the screen will say "Viaduct Entrance". Make a right towards the stairs as soon as you get to the double doors shown above. Don't go up the stairs -- instead, look behind the stairs: you'll find the next key underneath. It will take off into the opposite direction and down the last stair well you just ascended. Don't go too far down -- the key will turn left before you get to the balcony and chandelier, right here: So turn right halfway down the large staircase and follow i to the House Cabinet.
Daedalian Key 5
To find this one, you'll need to fast travel to the Library in The Library Annex. When you get there, head to the large shelves of books on the right side of the room. You'll find the key admist the shelves, in the passage before you get to the area with the fire place. It's easiest to spot if you go through the archways that cut through the shelves. See below: The key will fly back to the Floo Flame you just used and then turn right to the House Cabinet, on the same floor. Follow it as it flies toward the House Cabinet at the west wall.
Daedalian Key 6
You'll have to head to the Great Hall to find this key. Once you arrive, turn around and exit through the double doors. Go through the next two sets of double doors as well. You'll find the key near the stairway in front of all the paintings on the second floor as shown below: Follow the key down the stairs, and it'll lead you right to the House Cabinet located to the right of the Entrance Hall door you were just look at.

- Astronomy Tower. In the Astronomy Wing area. You're guided to this one as part of the quest. Fast travel to the Astronomy Tower Floo Flame, and find the key by heading further up the tower.
- Rhinoceros Skeleton. Also in the Astronomy Wing. Fast travel to the Transfiguration Courtyard Floo Flame, head through the doors behind you, then up the stairs and to the left to the Rhinoceros Skeleton to find the key floating nearby.
- Central Hall. In the Library Annex area. Fast travel to the Central Hall Floo Flame, go down the stairs, and then right at the fountain to find the key by the entrance to the Greenhouses.
- Library. Also in the Library Annex area. Fast travel to the Library Floo Flame to find the key by the bookcases on the side closest to you.
