Sep 10, 2024 · BDC’s services will add an estimated $23.6 billion in GDP to Canada’s economy over the next five years, while supporting 37,700 jobs. BDC’s clients employ 1.2 million Canadians, roughly 7% of the country’s active workforce, and the annual revenue of these clients is $435 billion.
BDC is financially self-sustaining. [8] Since 1998, it has been profitable and paid a total of more than $746 million in dividends to its sole shareholder, the Government of Canada. [9] On June 8, 2022, BDC’s Board of Director authorized the repurchase of $5.0 billion of its common shares.
Since 2010, the BDC's support for Canadian entrepreneurs has evolved to better meet the needs of SMEs and address Government of Canada priorities. As of 2022, the BDC supported 95,000 direct and indirect clients across Canada, serviced by its network of over 110 business centres.
The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is a Crown corporation created by Parliament and wholly owned by the Government of Canada. It reports to Parliament through the Minister of Industry. BDC fulfills its mandate by providing financing, venture capital and consulting services to entrepreneurs.
It operates profitably and since 1995, has declared and paid $157 million in dividends to the Government of Canada. BDC currently serves approximately 28,000 entrepreneurs. BDC provides its services through four operational units: BDC Financing; BDC Subordinate Financing; BDC Venture Capital and BDC Consulting.
