May 5, 2023 · Elmira, Ont. – The decontamination of the town’s aquifer is still a long way from meeting drinking water standards even though improvements are being made. The contaminants were discovered more than three decades ago, and the plume of Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and chlorobenzene.contamination has decreased in size by about 60 per cent over the past 30 years.

Agent Orange was produced by Uniroyal Canada in Elmira, Ont., a small farming community just outside Waterloo. The issue of contaminated groundwater first came to light in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The area has since accessed its drinking water from Waterloo.
