He was the oldest of three children and the only boy born to Goldie (Chmelnitsky) Robbins (1894-1991) and Aaron Ernest Robbins (1886-1948). His mother was born in the Ukraine; his father was born in Russia and moved to Montreal with his family when he was a child.

He co-founded the Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlor chain in 1945 with his partner and brother-in-law Burt Baskin. [1]

It eventually grew into the Baskin-Robbins ice cream chain. He died at Rancho Mirage, California on 5 May 2008.
