The doc does a good job of exploring the motivations and mindsets of the principal figures, but Clusiau and Schwarz don’t attempt to explore every facet of the sport. So while the representation of women is encouraging, the lack of racial diversity is disappointing.

The movie has good use of its soundtrack songs, which includes Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” and Avicii’s “The Lights.” “Fly” is the type of documentary that is as effective as it is because it was filmed over several years. There are moments of exhilaration and moments of agony that will stay with viewers after the movie is over.
