That’s when you typically hear about Halloween, The Thing, Escape from New York, or Big Trouble in Little China.   3. Agreed 100%. I think it's perfect in every aspect. A good deal of the movie was made up of reshoots (by Carpenter), and something tells me Mr. Carpenter is still a bit disappointed that his original vision of the movie didn't work out. It's probably the best movie that has the most reshoots, honestly. Definitely underappreciated.

It cracks along at a good pace, and on my first viewing of it in a cinema back in the day, there was a jump scare in a church that had the audience scream out loud.
