The movie is enjoyable, and has great performances from Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and the pilot from Firefly. But from the instant Louis C.K. is on the screen, the first time he shows up, it falls apart.
Despite Trumbo’s politics he earns a lot of money and lives in luxury (at least before he is blacklisted); when earning a living under the blacklist the pressure begins to make him a tyrant at home, etc – but things are raised and then dropped or sorted out with ease: the film doesn’t quite face the contradictions of being a left wing activist and a well paid and privileged movie writer.
