Oct 5, 2016 · If you'd like to explore the world of Valerian, but you're not sure if you want to commit to the entire series, I'd actually recommend starting with the second volume, Empire of a Thousand Planets, which is heaviest on the Star Wars parallels. Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will be released on July 21 2017.

It stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as Valerian and Laureline, respectively, with Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu and Rutger Hauer in supporting roles. Besson independently financed and personally funded the film.
