That would be a bit too thick for typical 1:1 plug wire, but close to some thicker high-performance plug wires. I would say that both 26 and 28 AWG insulated wires would likely be too thick if you want the plug wires to look in-scale.

  2. Home electrical wire in various gauges works for rad hoses, with the insulation left on, #12 is very close to 1/24 scale for 3”, #14 is closer to 2-1/2”. As an electrician I have a lifetime supply of the stuff in offcuts.

I have found old tape recorders a great source for plug wire and even coil wires, there are usually 2 guages of wire on most recorders. and the belts that drive the mechanisms are the perfect color, size and texture for doing belts on scale cars.

  6. Oct 7, 2018 · Also - use STRANDED wire for all DC power applications. Check the amp capacity for wire sizes. A trick I use with Carrera 1/32-24 plastic track is use a metal heat sink to keep the plastic from melting. Wire the tap section upside down on the plate. Solder 12 - 24 inch leads to the rails. You can then feed the leads to your terminal strip.
